The bishop’s topic will be “The Love of Christ Urges Us: Meditations on
the ‘Why’ of Evangelization.”

Bishop Flores, a priest since 1988, was appointed the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Brownsville on December 9, 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI and
was ordained as Bishop on Feb. 2, 2010.

The Escobedo Lecture is the only major annual lecture delivered in
Spanish at a Catholic theological institution in San Antonio. It was made possible through the generosity of Ruben M. Escobedo and his wife,
Veronica Salazar Escobedo, both of whom are Honorary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and longtime friends of many of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Their major endowed gift established a fund to benefit OST in perpetuity.

Veronica served on the OST Board of Trustees from 1989-2009;
however, her relationship with the Oblates began shortly after her birth. As an OST Trustee, Veronica proposed that the School hold an annual
Spring Gala fundraiser. She chaired the gala each year from its
inception in 2000 through this year’s event, and Ruben co-chaired the
gala with her since 2011. Under their leadership, the gala has raised
nearly $1.3 million.

Participants are advised to bring a sweater or light jacket, as well as
materials to take notes. For additional information or help registering,
please contact Noemy.
